Back to France

Bon Jour from Strasbourg, France! I find myself once again in the land of strange keyboards and lots of cheese.

Switzerland was great, and I am thrilled to have gotten to go there on this trip. Last night, I grabbed the best deal for dinner at the grociery store: 8 dollars for two rolls, two apples, a Swiss chocolate bar, and a cooked chicken leg. I was definitly pleased with my very filling cheap dinner.

At the hostel, I watched Will Ferrel's first big movie, Old School, which the people in the common room were playing. I have to admit, I did not enjoy it that much but it was good for a couple laughs and it was nice to be around people. In the middle of it, I walked over to a very mellow jazz festival across the street and enjoyed the steel drum and bass guitar tones. I wish the US had more local summer festivals...

So this morning I got on the relatively short train to Strasbourg, which is as German of a town you could find in France. Many of the signs are in both languages and they sell a lot of pretzels... haha. The station was pretty far from the hostel, but I enjoyed the scenic walk along the town's canal.

Like Bern and Zurich, there was not a whole bunch to do in the city, but I occupied myself with an open market and a huge Gothic cathedral in the city center. In it there is an astrological clock, and like all big and famous clocks in Europe (the Glockenspeil in Munich and the astrological clock in Prague), it was 100 percent overrated. The cathedral itself, however was quite impressive and boasts a ton of great stained glass.

After grabbing a quick and cheap supermarket lunch that I consumed on the banks of the canal, I went to the town's main museum, which is a 3 in 1 deal of an exhibition on a palace, an art museum, and an archeological museum. I enjoyed the quite and uncrowded palace and the religious art in the art part of it, but I am afraid the archeological part was a little boring for me. I guess this seals me into the Sociocultural part of my prospective major of Anthropology. haha.

As nice as it is to be back in France, I am itching to get a good feel for Germany over the next five days. Berlin sounds especially exciting! I am trying not to think of the lack of time left in this trip...

Oh, and sorry for the lack of pictures again- its been mainly a consecutive run of technological issues, but slightly from laziness as well. Stick around and the pictures may return! (Hint: commenting on my posts would be a great motivation, you shadow readers)
