The Alhambra

Two years of Spanish language education at Chaparral High School has not prepared me in the least for operating in Spain.

Honestly, I can barely get into this internet cafe on my own with the language skills I have! I'm so lucky that my father knows Spanish so well. Anyways, I am in Granada, Spain, not to be confused with Grenada, which apparantly is a completely different place in the Carribbean that was in a war. I'm glad I knew that before I made any embarasing mistakes. So, we're staying at Hotel Carmen, which is a pretty rad hotel with a ton of marble and gawdy statues. Finally I can sleep in some relatively comfortable beds!

We had to wake up at 8 this morning because we were going to the Alhambra, which is this huge Muslim/Christian castle/palace aged about 1.5 thousand years old. I was told some people travel from across the world to Spain just to see this thing, which I dont understand at all. For breakfast I had corn flakes, coffee, and a rather large plate of sardines, which were scrumptous. So, we went on this guided tour of the Alhambra for 4 hours, and took about 200 pictures of all the ornate Islamic walls and the pretty fountains and stuff. The gardans were really cool, though. They have 32 gardeners for about 40 hectres of gardens. It was neat-o and they had a lot of hedges cut into funny shapes.

Then we went to the restaurant at what is called a Parador, which is a type of expensive hotel that is in an old castle or estate. So we went there for lunch. The main remarkable thing about this lunch was a man sitting at a table next to us. He sat alone and had three menus- one of which was the children's menu. He was quite barbaric, didn't speak a recognizable language, burped, farted, shouted, and yelled at the waiters who tried to tell him that he could not buy food off of the children's menu. It was funny, but disconcerting. He also had a t-shirt stuck down his pants. Don't ask me why...

So that was today, we're off to Cuenca tomorrow and from there, Barcelona and Madrid. I'm excited! How are all of you doing?

By the way, SHOUTOUT TO THE ARGENTINIAN MISSION TRIP TEAM, who left yesturday for a week or so in Argentina. I hope they have a great time and complete their mission, and dont get caught in a riot relating to the World Cup.

Adios!, or should I say, ¡Adios!

(I know there are many misspellings, but that's because of a sticky, public keyboard and a spanish version of the web editor without spellcheck.)

That's why you need to take spanish III. :)

You're not missing much here, just the usual. There's only 5 of us home so we've just been hanging out.

So Spain sounds AMAZING but relax on the picture taking. 100 a day? no no no, you're only like a week-ish into your trip. SAVE THEM UP!

Anyways we all miss you and I'll see you (in a monthish?) in London! The Sunday soundtrack sounds good so look forward!

loveeeee,
