The title is the Czech word that I call the three Czech leader girls here. They're so funny and know English really well. They're such a riot! It means ladybugs.
Well, all of the other teams have left for other parts of Czech, so it's just the Scottsdale Bible team and the Zlin church team. The students are arriving by train today at about 3. I'm really excited. I'm actually doing all the sound and music managing stuff for the meetings, which is fun. Sound boards look really complicated, but they're simple in reality. The band is really good.
Anyways, the weather here is the complete opposite of Phoenix! It's in the mid to high 60's and it's raining all the time, and after it rains, it turnes into low clouds, and since we're in the mountains, it's just like fog. I like it a lot, but the Czechs dont. Crazy Czechs.
Ok, I have to tell you about yesturday's dinner. It was a normal Czech dinner, but to us Americans, it was heaven! For DINNER we had Crepes with whipped cream and pinapple and stuff! It was so cool! I love it here. However, another not so fun cultural difference is that when you ask a Czech how they are doing, they think of it as a valid question. In the US, everyone just says "Hey, how are you?" and EVERYONE says "Im good" no matter how they feel. So I've been trying to train myself not to ask the Czechs that.
Another interesting thing about the Czechs is that they don't think about God that much! Like, in America, people are crazy about "spirituality" and trying to fill that gap in them with "incense sticks and vegitarian meals" as the Black Eyed Peas say. Well, in Czech, people rarely think about spirituality or God, and sometimes the first time they even consider God is at camps like this where Americans are. Not only that, but they are quite hostile towards the idea of God, because the Czech Republic for hundreds of years have been conquered by everyone, and ever since the fall of Communism, it's the first time they are under their own authority, so they dont like the idea of God because it seems to them like another authority. It's quite interesting. Maybe we can stretch their thinking this week.
Well, that's all for now, I hope all of you readers are safe and having a good summer! I miss all of you!
Cau! (Bye in Czech)

Dear Derek - It's Nana and Grandpa. Your blog is terrific! We have had cable trouble for 3 wks and hope that this reaches you. It is great to see you sopping it all up and I know that it gives great joy to your Dad and Mom. We are praying for you and will really concentrate upon your part in the spreading of the Good News to your campers and others in the Chech Republic. Communism destroys cultures and the links of passing His "truth from generation to generation". You are needed very much. We love you - keep up the good work. oxoxoxoxoxox G and N
