(Not so) Foggy London Town!

Well well well, many things have happened since my last post, let me tell you that much!

So, the night after I updated, I had a splended German homecooked meal, and then we went out to Altstadtfest! Oh man, that was sooo neat! It was this little town's yearly festival, and man are they passionate about it! There are singers, fair food, and all these things to buy. I loved it! It was true German culture. Julia, Claudia's cousin, bought me a chocolate cookie heart with the word "cowboy" on it. Haha, I wore it around all night!

The next day we went to the boarder that used to separate eastern and western Germany during eastern Germany's occupation by the USSR. It was very interesting to see it, and it made me try and imagine what it must have been like during that time. Dismal, most likely. Then we headed to a little town to walk around and have ice cream in. MM

I then went to lunch at the Altstadtfest with Julia- steak on a bun- and watched their cool parade. It was amazing! They had all the little clubs from the town marching around, like the mens choir, the swimming club, the cheerleading team, and everything! I really liked it. Then I went home to watch the Formula 1 game, which Martin really likes. Afternoon tea with a scottish couple was next! It was really nice to speak English again and hear about these people's immagration from Scotland to Salzgitter, Germany. There was a cream puff cake. mmm

And once again, that night we went out to the Altstadtfest for more parting and festival food. We watched a nice little band sing American songs. haha, sweetness!

The next morning, bright and early, I said my goodbye's to Julia and headed to the airport via the AUTOBAHN! It was truly amazing, and Martin pushed his VW to the limit! The flight was nice, and once I got off, it was a two hour trip with my luggage to the Hanslips on the Tube. I'm so glad to be in London again! I love this city, and my hosts, the Hanslips, are so cool and easygoing.

So that night, I met up with my AZ buddies, the Daltons for dinner and a show!!! It was ultra nice to see them again after missing them for more than a month! We had a great time eating at the Ivy and seeing one of the actors from Jurrassic Park (the proffessor! not) and then to "Sunday in the Park with George". It was a very nice play with wicked animations. Fun night!

Then, yesturday, I got up relatively late and went to the British Museum, which is a gigantic museam, free, and really neat. I saw the rossetta stone, among other old world things. The prints were the best, because it was really cold in that room. I know that's shameful to say, but it was nice! Ooh, and I also got a hotdog off of a hotdog stand right outside the museum, which is exactly what I did when I went there 5 years ago! haha, oh so symbolic.

Then I wandered around the streets of London, in the very general direction of Picadilly square, which turned out to be quite neat. I really like London. Have I said that yet?

I was then off to the Home Office to ask about my citizenship! It took a good hour to find the building, and when I got there, they simply gave me another phone number, but I was greatful, and I was in the area of Parliament and Big Ben, so it was nice. I went back to the Hanslips and finally spent some time with them before I headed back into town to see Jon, who was on my Czech team. He was here with his lady friend, and we found an AWESOME tex-mex place! It was sooo good, but our waiter was tipsy all night. Good times.

Last night, I spent some more time with the Hanslips and watched the BBC, which is some quality programming, let me tell you! So, this morning I went out with Austin, the youngest of the two Hanslip boys, and visited the Tate Modern Art Museum, after wandering around the Thames for a while and getting to know London quite well. After looking at all the modern art for 2 hours and having Austin be my guide, I realized that I don't really get modern art. I really dont like it. I dont know if I'm too stupid to understand it, or if I understand it and still dont like it. hm. I like older styles better. I enjoyed the trip, though.

So, that's what's been happening. It's the hottest day in London on record today! Over 100 degrees! It's a dry heat, so I barely notice it, but everyone around me is dying. haha, silly English people. Well, I hope all of you stay classy! I'm off to Edinburgh tomorrow!

Do the hustle! *do do dooo do doo do do dooooo doo* Sounds like London was a blast (and you got a taste of heat, Arizona-style!) And you were in the area of Big Ben (obviously the best piece of architecture in London, fo' sho'. Anyways, have an awesome rest-of-the-trip!

Sounds like a blast so far. Have fun in Edinburgh. I spent about a month near Newcastle on the Tyne (military training area). Spent a couple of days in Edinburgh. Really cool. Didn't see the Tattoo, but had a good time none the less.

Have a pint of Newcastle Brown Ale at a pub near the castle for me, will ya? Straight from the tap, bottoms up!

If you get a chance, tour the old Roman Baths in the area, and see Hadrian's Wall (or what's left). Lots of history.

Good luck with the thick Scottish Brogue among the northerners. And, keep on writing!
