Mien Leipken

Let me make one thing clear: Little German towns are pretty rad, despite their dreary conotations.

So, I made it to Salzgitter! Quite a wild ride it was, might I add. Actually it wasn't, but I would like to think it was. Claudia's parents met me at the station, which was cool, since, I haven't seen them in ages. They are so sweet! They got me a hotel room because they think that their flat is too small! I felt bad that they thought they needed to do that for me, but they insisted.

I didn't really do anything last night, we ate dinner and looked at photos, as well as used the internet phone to call Claudia, which was neat. I think these internet phones will really take over the market, they are really useful.

This morning, Claudia's parents and her cousin, Julia, all met me at the hotel for a nice German breakfast. I spilled. I also spilled last night. Honestly, I think that this weekend is just the time where I drop everything out of my hands and onto the tablecloth. It's so embarrasing! Oh well. I can deal with it. So, after breakfast we headed for Goslar, which is a small town, but not as small as Salzgitter, with a large mine. We took a tour into the mine, but the guide, unfortunately, didn't not speak any English, so Julia translated for me. It was a cool mine, with huge water wheels in is and cool minerals and stuff. Then we looked at the museum, which was made fun by the translated headphone guide. For some reason, the translators felt the need to use extreme adjectives for the guide, so it would always say things like "This amazingly fantastic exhibit is about the magnificence of mining, and it is desperately waiting you arrival!" Yeah, it cracked me up.

Then, we headed into town to look around and have lunch, which Julia picked out when I asked for a traditional Bulvarian (region in Germany) food. It was sausages, and pork with Saurcrout (I know its wrong) and potato salad. Delicious! Then we walked around and saw different buildings. Neat-o. Now Im here waiting for dinner, which is going to be a homemade German dinner! Complete with dumplings and sauercrout! mmm. Can't wait.

Peace out!
